INSTRUCTION

Project 1: Instructable Infographics Poster

Vid 1.1: Pasta Grannies: How to make Pinna's Spaghetti alla Carbonara

For project 1, we were tasked to create an infographic poster from one of pastagrannies's youtube channel. I then chose to create an instructable poster for making my favourite pasta, spaghetti alla carbonara.

I browsed through google and pinterest to get inspiration and ideas on how to create the instructable poster.

The art style i chose is flat vector illustration with beige themed.

Mr. Martin gave his feedback on my poster. "I think the design and composition is good. Personally, I don't like the font colour black in this poster, try white" and "Additional, which again is subjective I don't like those indication lines pointing into the subjects, prefer them stop before reaching into subjects. Also, the 'whisk' bracket should be from centre of the egg to centre salt pepper bottle".

So i followed his initial feedback and here is the result:

Then he followed with "i feel that the title shouldnt be black or white...just saying"

I then decided to do more explorations on the color palette.

I finally decided that the second color scheme works best for my theme.

Project 2 Part 1: Animated Infographic

Project 2 part 1 is a continuation of project 1 in which we were tasked to create an animated version of project 1 (instructable poster).

Before animating, I created layouts to plan the scenes of the animated infographic. Keeping it coordinated with my poster, I sectioned each artboard with individual steps.

I then started animating my layouts in aftereffect

After animating all my layouts, i then moved to final cut pro to lighten the workflow and add sound effects.

Fig 2.3: Video Editing in Final Cut Pro X

I chose this method to do my animation task because im more familiar using this approach, after effect mainly for visual effects, final cut or premier pro for video editing and more. By seperating the workflow  this way, it make the work more organized in my opinion compared to doing it all in after effects. Rendering the whole animation would also be lighter in final cut pro.

The sound effects used:

Project 2 Part 2: Exercises 3 & 4

Exercise 3: Kinetic Typography

Vid 2.1: "So What" by P!nk

For week 2 practical, we were tasked to create a video lyrics animation using after effects.

Fig 3.1: So What Breakdown

We split our parts based on the song structure (chorus, verses etc) instead of line by line (sentences).

This week we learned how to animate shapes and lines in order to create pie/donut charts, bar charts and line charts for our final project.

We were tasked to create motion graphic chart animations in week 3. The chart assigned to me was D: Line Chart.

FEEDBACK

Mr. Martin gave his feedback on my poster. "I think the design and composition is good. Personally, I don't like the font colour black in this poster, try white" and "Additional, which again is subjective I don't like those indication lines pointing into the subjects, prefer them stop before reaching into subjects. Also, the 'whisk' bracket should be from centre of the egg to centre salt pepper bottle" followed by "i feel that the title shouldnt be black or white...just saying"

REFLECTION

For Project 1, we had to use skills we learned using the L.A.T.C.H method. Designing the poster was fun as we were given the freedom to choose any recipe from pastagrannies's youtube channel. I chose my favourite pasta which is the carbonara to start this project. I then chose one of my favourite color schemes, beige. Doing the animation for project 1 was a bit time consuming because it is an individual project, in contrast with project 2 exercise 3, the lyrics video animation is a group work. I compiled and edited everything for my group using Final Cut Pro, i find this interesting for me as i've always like to edit videos. But my animation skills need to be studied further.
