INSTRUCTION

Quantify and Visualize data

EXERCISE 1

Our task in Exercise 1 is to arrange our chosen objects and segregate it into a presentable layout or chart.

Fig 1.2: Lego after grouped by shape - Week 1 (04/01/2022)

I used lego to complete my first task for this module. I analyzed the legos and they were of different type and color. I then went to see lego's list of parts to get the detailed name for each part to be accurate.

EXERCISE 2

Our task in Exercise 2 is to organize a group of information into a visual poster that combined and utilizes the LATCH principles.

Location: Places in Sinnoh Region
Alphabet: Capture order
Time: -
Category: Types
Hierarchy: Evolution

I got my Pokemon characters from https://pokestop.io. From here i chose several characters which i found interesting.

As lately i am inspired by the use of gradient from several design trends, i would like to implement this effect in conjunction with a minimal and clean easy-to-navigate visual poster.

PRACTICAL

Week 1: Motion Graphic
Recommend 3 professional motion graphics on blog with rationals and inspirations.

1. Pictura - Carmelo Barberá
2. Animated Prompts - Tilt
3. Foundations. On Type - Erik Spiekermann

RATIONALE

To explain my choice of motion graphics which I look up to, I usually go for designs which are minimal and contemporary. A blend of those 2 principals with futuristic and modern approach would support my choice of inspired motion graphic.

For the first visual graphic by Carmelo barberá, he is a Director and Visual Artist currently based in Madrid. In his career, he has explored different fields of visual creation from directing, cinematography, screenwriting, post-production. For almost 10 years his main focus has been on the creation of computer-generated. With a strong base in the creation of spaces, the handling of light thanks to his studies in Architecture, and a great sense and need to tell an idea in each image he creates.

Secondly, the motion graphic by tilt named "animated prompts" inspired me due to the use of colors. After further research, the gradient colors are now trending to be used in design, named light hues, glassmorphism etc.

The last motion graphic that inspired me was the use of contrasting bauhaus design which is also a trend nowadays as a designer.

Week 2: Kinetic Typography

Vid 2.1: Kinetic Typography [practice]

We were tasked to do a practice doing an after effects animation before moving on to the group task. The examples are given at https://youtu.be/b1_p2qQf_Ts and https://youtu.be/kD73GVXwLXg. In this practice, we were given the song So What by P!nk.

We then split our parts amongst our group members and i was assigned these lines:

Week 3: Motion Graphic Chart

Vid 3.1: Line Chart
The individual task this time is to make a motion graphic chart. I am assigned to do chart #4 which is a line graph. I recreated the blank chart using adobe illustrator to be neatly animated in after effects. The tutorial for this practical exercise is from:

REFLECTION

I acquired numerous ways of graphically organising information through the flip courses and Ms. Anis' lectures. The design concepts of hierarchy and balance were also stressed throughout the sessions. Because location, alphabet, time, category, and hierarchy all had to be included and organised properly, making the L.A.T.C.H. poster was a bit tricky.

In addition, Mr. Martin's practical lessons taught me more about animation. The null object functioning as a camera, chart and graph animation, text animation, and rudimentary puppet control were all new to me. These were quite useful for our final animation project.
